Virgin Voyages has cancelled Brilliant Lady’s scheduled Halloween cruise departing Los Angeles on 30 October 2027. The seven-night sailing, set to call at San Diego, Ensenada, and Cabo San Lucas before returning on 6 November, will not operate as planned.

According to Virgin Voyages, the cancellation is due to the ship being secured for a private charter. The company informed affected passengers, stating, “Due to a private charter, this voyage has been canceled.” Virgin Voyages also expressed regret, adding, “We know how much planning goes into a vacation like this, and we certainly don’t take this lightly.” The identity of

the charter client and details of the booking were not disclosed.

The disruption extends to Brilliant Lady’s subsequent Mexican Riviera cruise originally scheduled to depart Los Angeles on 6 November 2027. Instead of the planned seven-night itinerary including stops at San Diego and an overnight in Cabo San Lucas, the cruise has been divided into two shorter voyages. One new itinerary runs for four nights calling at Catalina Island and Ensenada; the other is a three-night cruise with a single stop in Ensenada. Passengers affected by this change were directly notified by Virgin Voyages, although the replacement itineraries were not

yet available for general booking on the cruise line’s website at the time of the announcement.

Passengers booked on the cancelled Halloween voyage may transfer their reservation to any seven-night Virgin Voyages cruise departing Los Angeles between 18 September and 13 November 2027. Those who switch will keep their original fare and promotional benefits and receive $100 in onboard credit. Alternatively, they can opt for a full refund. For guests affected by the split November sailings, transfers to the new shorter cruises apply automatically with payments credited, along with the same $100 onboard credit compensation.

Some passengers shared their dissatisfaction

following the cancellations. One Virgin Voyages customer stated, “Kind of bummed out, was really looking forward to it.” The same passenger, booked on both affected sailings, added concerns about promotional benefits, saying, “Now to figure out where to cruise next but to add insult to injury I’ve got MNVV [My Next Virgin Voyage] on both sailings and took advantage of the pay in full discount that’s no longer an option.”

Virgin Voyages’ decision to prioritise private charters over traditional sailings aligns with economic considerations. Private charters involve purchasing all cabins, guaranteeing full revenue regardless of market demand, unlike regular sailings

that risk unsold inventory. This strategy is not new to the company; a similar cancellation occurred in August 2025 when Scarlet Lady’s April 2026 Caribbean sailing was cancelled to accommodate a Summit at Sea private charter.

Brilliant Lady serves as Virgin Voyages’ flagship on the West Coast, operating from Los Angeles with a capacity of 2,770 guests. The ship features an adults-only policy, inclusive dining, and a focus on wellness and boutique entertainment. Virgin Voyages uses its My Next Virgin Voyage program to provide booking credits and exclusive perks for future bookings, which adds complexity when cancellations affect reservations with

outstanding promotional credits.

The cancellations and itinerary changes disrupt passenger plans, particularly for those who booked multiple consecutive voyages including the Halloween and November sailings. Passengers must rearrange travel and accommodations affected by the changing schedule. Virgin Voyages has given more than a year’s notice before the original departure dates, allowing time for passengers to make alternative arrangements.
