Violent thunderstorms that swept across the London area on June 30, 2026, have caused significant operational disruption at two of the UK’s busiest airports, London Heathrow and Gatwick. The severe weather conditions led to widespread delays and cancellations of flights throughout the day.
In total, more than 900 flights at Heathrow and Gatwick were grounded as a direct result of the violent storms. The cancellations and delays affected a range of domestic and international routes, severely impacting flight operations across both airports.
Thousands of passengers faced disruptions, with many flights canceled or delayed, resulting in considerable travel difficulties and congestion
at the airport terminals. This abrupt interruption to flight schedules has caused widespread travel chaos for travellers attempting to depart or arrive through London’s major airports.
The thunderstorms continue to pose challenges to flight operations, and passengers are advised to monitor airline communications and airport updates throughout the day as the situation evolves.
