MSC Cruises has cancelled the repositioning voyage of MSC Armonia to South Africa for the 2026-2027 cruise season.

The 26-night Grand Voyage was scheduled to depart from Marghera, Italy, on November 1, 2026, ending in Durban, South Africa, after passing through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea.

Planned Itinerary and Ports of Call

The itinerary included port calls in Croatia and Greece before entering the Suez Canal. After crossing into the Indian Ocean, MSC Armonia was set to visit Aqaba in Jordan, Mahé in Seychelles, Diego Suarez in Madagascar, and Port Louis in Mauritius before arriving in Durban.

The repositioning cruise was meant to position

the 2001-built MSC Armonia ahead of its first regional cruise season operating from Durban in winter 2026-2027.

Security Concerns Prompt Cancellation

MSC Cruises cited the ongoing security situation and geopolitical instability in the Suez Canal and Red Sea region as the reason for cancelling the voyage. The company stated that safe passage through these maritime areas could no longer be guaranteed.

Passenger safety and well-being were the primary considerations influencing the decision to cancel the repositioning cruise, according to MSC Cruises.

Passenger Options Following Cancellation

Passengers booked on the cancelled MSC Armonia voyage are able to cancel without penalty and receive a full refund. Alternatively, they can transfer

their booking to another MSC Grand Voyage with a similar duration, which may be up to three nights longer, with MSC Cruises applying the more favourable fare.

Those booked on the cancelled cruise can also move their reservations to another MSC Cruises voyage currently open for booking, with payments transferred to the new booking and the applicable fare applied.

MSC Cruises acknowledged the disruption this cancellation causes but emphasized that the decision followed a thorough assessment of prevailing conditions in the region.
