MSC Cruises has cancelled the planned repositioning voyage of MSC Armonia to South Africa, affecting the ship’s 2026-2027 South Africa cruise itinerary.
Original Voyage Itinerary Details
The cancelled voyage was a 26-night Grand Voyage scheduled to depart from Marghera, Italy, on November 1, 2026. The itinerary included port calls in Croatia and Greece before transiting the Suez Canal and Red Sea. After crossing the Red Sea, the ship was set to visit Aqaba in Jordan, Mahé in Seychelles, Diego Suarez in Madagascar, and Port Louis in Mauritius before arriving in Durban, South Africa.
Cause of Cancellation
MSC Cruises cited the ongoing security situation in the Red Sea
region and continuing geopolitical tensions around the Suez Canal as factors that mean safe passage for MSC Armonia can no longer be guaranteed. These developments have led to the decision to cancel the repositioning cruise.
Passenger Rebooking and Refund Options
Passengers booked on the cancelled voyage may cancel without penalty and receive a full refund. Alternatively, they can transfer their booking to another MSC Grand Voyage of similar or longer duration, with MSC applying the more favourable fare between the original sailing and the selected alternative. Customers also have the option to transfer their booking without penalty to another MSC Cruises voyage currently available for
booking, with payments already made being transferred to the new reservation.
MSC Cruises acknowledged the disruption to passengers caused by the cancellation and said the decision followed a detailed assessment of prevailing conditions.
The MSC Armonia, built in 2001, was intended to reposition to Durban ahead of its first regional season operating from South Africa in the 2026-2027 winter. MSC Cruises has not yet announced alternate repositioning plans for the vessel following this cancellation.
