Lemon Tree Hotels declared plans on August 10, 2026, to extend its operations internationally to the UAE, Thailand, and Maldives. The expansion aims to capture the lodging demand from Indian travelers in these countries.
Current Operations and Strategic Rationale
The Indian hotel group already operates properties in Nepal and Dubai. Its strategy is to follow Indian travelers as they move abroad, targeting destinations within three hours flying distance from India. This moves the brand beyond its home market with a focus on regions frequented by Indian tourists.
Customer Base and Loyalty Program
Approximately 45% of Lemon Tree’s hotel bookings come from repeat guests. About half of these repeat customers participate
in the company’s loyalty program, which currently has around 2.5 million members. The company sees opportunity to deepen customer engagement beyond India, particularly in new overseas markets.
Expansion Philosophy and Traveler Impact
Executive Chairman Patanjali Keswani emphasized the approach that Indian hotel brands can leverage their established domestic customer base to support international growth. Indian travelers visiting the UAE, Thailand, and Maldives will gain more accommodation choices as Lemon Tree enters these markets.
