Holland America Line has unveiled a redesigned Ocean Bar on the Oosterdam following the ship’s recent Evolution refurbishment, part of the cruise line’s largest fleet update in its 153-year history announced on September 3, 2026.
New Features and Layout Enhancements
The Ocean Bar now includes a newly installed stage to accommodate a broader variety of programming such as performances by regional soloists, pianists, Vivace Strings ensembles, and late-night cabaret shows. The bar itself has been relocated strategically to strengthen its connection with the live performances, serving as a centerpiece within the venue. Updated seating arrangements have been introduced with a more open floor plan and
refurbished furniture upholstered in fabrics derived from recycled materials.
Design Inspirations and Custom Furnishings
The redesign draws inspiration from Holland America’s maritime heritage and includes stylistic details influenced by the Rotterdam V, a historic ship in the company’s fleet. The new decoration merges Art Deco elegance with subtle nautical themes. Custom furnishings incorporate elements reminiscent of vintage travel trunks and luggage, featuring leather accents that underscore the venue’s refined character.
Fleet-Wide Evolution Refurbishment Program
This update is part of a six-ship Evolution program, which is the most extensive fleet renewal in Holland America’s history. The Oosterdam is the first vessel to receive this upgrade, followed by the Zuiderdam as
the second, with new bandstands added to the Lido Pools on both ships. These refurbishments aim to enhance guest experiences across the fleet.
Following its fall drydock, the Oosterdam is scheduled to operate eight itineraries with 15 departure dates spanning Europe, the Caribbean, and North America starting in late 2027.

by our maritime heritage, including design details drawn from Rotterdam V, this reimagined venue creates a setting where guests can gather for a cocktail, enjoy live music and immerse themselves in the refined elegance that has always been part of the Holland America experience.”
