Holland America Line has opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska cruise season, continuing its more than 80-year legacy of Alaska expertise. The cruise line’s 2028 offerings include rare voyages and innovative ways for guests to explore the region, aiming to deepen connections with Alaska’s landscapes and wildlife.
Cruises, Routes, and Unique Voyages
The 2028 season spans seven to 18-day cruises aboard six ships: Oosterdam, Noordam, Eurodam, Koningsdam, Westerdam, and Zaandam. Sailing itineraries depart roundtrip from Seattle and Vancouver, operate between Vancouver and Whittier, and introduce a new 11-day voyage from San Diego to Vancouver, named the California to Alaska: Shores, Fjords & Glaciers itinerary. Holland
America Line’s fleet total is 11 vessels serving nearly 400 ports across 114 countries in its 153-year history.
Oosterdam’s Evolution Transformation and Cruisetour Role
Oosterdam debuts Holland America Evolution, the cruise line’s largest fleet investment, featuring new Solo Verandah staterooms, expansive Bridgeview Suites with panoramic forward views, and the Grand Dutch Café inspired by Holland America’s Dutch heritage. The ship will serve as the primary vessel for Alaska Cruisetours in 2028, allowing guests to combine cruises with overland excursions into Denali and the Yukon. Availability of 2028 Cruisetours will be announced later; bookings for 2027 are open.
First Scenic Cruising of Nootka Sound
For the first time in its history, Holland America
Line will navigate scenic cruising through Nootka Sound along Vancouver Island’s west coast on select Great Alaska Explorer and Great Bear Rainforest itineraries. This remote waterway, known as the birthplace of British Columbia, provides access to rugged coastlines and forested shores rarely included in ocean cruise routes, offering a unique Pacific Northwest experience.
Booking Incentives and Deeper Alaska Connections
Guests reserving select 2028 Alaska cruises can access the Have It All Early Booking Bonus, which includes shore excursion credit, specialty dining, an Elite Beverage Package, premium Wi-Fi, prepaid Crew Appreciation, and the cruise line’s Best Price Guarantee. These additions align with Holland America Line’s goal to
pair well-known Alaska highlights with distinctive experiences and new ways to enjoy the journey onboard and ashore.
Paul Grigsby on the 2028 Season
Paul Grigsby, vice president of revenue planning and deployment for Holland America Line, said the 2028 season offers rare itineraries and lesser-traveled waterways to give guests a deeper connection to Alaska. He emphasized that Oosterdam’s transformation provides new accommodations and combined cruise-overland experiences to enhance how guests experience Alaska’s scenery both on board and ashore.
Grigsby stated: “What has always set Holland America Line apart in Alaska is our ability to combine the iconic experiences guests dream about with opportunities to see the
destination in ways they haven’t before.” He additionally noted, “Alaska’s scenery is already unforgettable, and Oosterdam will give guests even more ways to experience it.”
