Disney Cruise Line will increase its presence in Puerto Rico with eight scheduled calls to San Juan during fiscal 2028, including six homeport operations and two transit visits. The ships expected to be involved are Disney Destiny, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish.
Notably, the 2027-2028 winter cruise season will mark Disney Cruise Line’s first use of San Juan as a homeport during the Caribbean’s peak cruise period. Puerto Rico tourism officials estimate these calls will generate approximately $7.2 million in economic impact.
According to Willianette Robles Cancel, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, “The growth of homeport operations
represents an important opportunity to increase the economic impact of the cruise sector in Puerto Rico.” Homeport calls typically drive more local spending than transit calls due to passenger expenditures on hotels, transportation, and activities before and after cruises.
San Juan’s Growing Role as a Cruise Hub
San Juan is a major cruise hub in the Caribbean, especially for itineraries covering the southern and eastern Caribbean. Puerto Rico experienced record cruise passenger arrivals in its most recent fiscal year, supporting the island’s expanding industry profile. The island will host the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association conference for the second consecutive year, highlighting its increasing importance in the regional cruise market.

The expanded homeport operations provide travelers with more options for Caribbean cruises originating from San Juan. This allows passengers to integrate stays in Puerto Rico before or after their cruise voyages, adding flexibility and enhancing overall travel planning.
