InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has surpassed 1,000 operational hotels across Europe as of October 22, 2026. This milestone follows the addition of over 210 hotels to its European portfolio in the last three years, reflecting a net system size increase exceeding 25%.
IHG currently has more than 280 hotels in development throughout Europe. These new properties include a mix of newly built hotels, conversions of existing buildings, and the introduction of brands into new markets. The group expanded its portfolio recently through the acquisition of the Ruby brand and the launch of the Noted Collection, which is IHG’s 21st hotel
brand and has secured seven global signings to date.
Notable Recent Openings in Europe
Examples of recent openings include The Hari in London, an 85-room hotel added to IHG’s Vignette Collection, a luxury and lifestyle brand. This property is located in Belgravia, near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. The Vignette Collection now operates 13 hotels in Europe with 16 additional projects underway.
In France, Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille marks the arrival of the Ruby brand, providing lifestyle accommodations near Marseille’s central districts and waterfront. In Austria, Crowne Plaza Vienna adds a 195-room premium business hotel to IHG’s European lineup, reinforcing its presence in the Austrian capital.
Growth Strategy and Market Expansion
Since January 2024, IHG has introduced 36 brand debuts across Europe, excluding Ruby properties, expanding into markets such as Iceland, Sweden, Greece, and other notable cities. Its strategy combines organic hotel developments with conversions, facilitating growth in urban centers where new construction may be limited.
Impact on Loyalty Program and Traveler Options
The expansion broadens destination options for members of the IHG One Rewards program, which now counts over 160 million members globally. The growing portfolio increases the variety and accessibility of accommodations available to loyal customers across Europe.
European Tourism Context
Europe remains the world’s largest international tourism destination, with UN Tourism data reporting approximately 793 million international arrivals
in 2025. High demand for leisure travel, city breaks, and business trips continues to drive investment in luxury, lifestyle, premium, and mainstream hotels, as reflected in IHG’s development pipeline.
IHG’s approach includes hotel conversions that allow rapid entry into central urban locations, complementing new builds and brand expansions. This diversified development strategy supports sustained growth across Europe’s competitive hospitality market.
