SeaDream Yacht Club has confirmed the order of a new small cruise ship named SeaDream III, marking its first newly constructed vessel in 25 years. The ship will be built at China Merchants Cruise Shipbuilding and is expected to be delivered in 2029, expanding the company’s luxury yacht-like fleet.
SeaDream III will have a gross tonnage of 16,500 and stretch 151 meters in length. It will accommodate roughly 230 passengers and 200 crew members, nearly doubling the passenger capacity of SeaDream’s current ships, each with a gross tonnage of 4,333 and capacity for 112 guests.
The ship’s design includes five
stateroom decks with various suite options and connecting rooms. Four decks will feature private balconies for staterooms, while 20 rooms will not have balconies. Its layout offers a spacious upper deck, a dedicated pool deck, separate indoor and outdoor dining areas, and three water sports docks. Enhanced spa, fitness, and wellness facilities will also be part of the new design.
Operational Plans and Official Statements
The maiden voyage of SeaDream III is slated for July 10, 2029, departing from Hong Kong, China. The ship will be christened on July 21, 2029, in Tokyo, Japan. Atle Brynestad, founder and owner of SeaDream Yacht Club, stated the
ship is intended for both long-distance voyages and close destination exploration, balancing access to unique ports with extensive cruising abilities while maintaining personalized service.
Fleet Background and Market Context
SeaDream’s current vessels, SeaDream I and SeaDream II, are 42 and 43 years old, respectively. Both ships are undergoing major refurbishments scheduled for 2023 and 2024. The new order replaces a previously cancelled contract with Damen Shipyards signed in 2019, initially planning for a ship to start service in 2021. The aging fleet and growth of the small luxury cruise market drove SeaDream to pursue the new build.
