On September 3, 2026, Holland America Line announced the completion of the redesigned Ocean Bar aboard its cruise ship Oosterdam, following the ship’s Evolution refurbishment. The updated venue features a new stage, refreshed lounge areas and a redesigned layout aimed at improving guest interaction with live performances.

Ocean Bar Redesign Features and Inspirations

The Ocean Bar’s layout has been strategically altered to strengthen the connection between guests and live entertainment. It includes a newly constructed stage tailored to support varied programming such as soloists, pianists, the Vivace Strings ensemble, and late-night cabaret shows. Refurbished furnishings incorporate upholstery crafted from recycled fabrics. Custom seating and décor reflect

a blend of Art Deco style and nautical design influences inspired by Holland America’s maritime heritage, including details derived from the historic ship Rotterdam V. Leather accents and motifs evoking vintage travel trunks and luggage further enhance the venue’s refined atmosphere.

Itinerary Plans and Fleet-Wide Upgrades

After completing the Evolution upgrades, Oosterdam will resume service with eight itineraries and 15 departure dates covering Europe, the Caribbean, and North America beginning in late 2027 following a Fall drydock. The Evolution program represents Holland America Line’s largest fleet refurbishment effort in its 153-year history. Oosterdam is the first of six ships scheduled for upgrades under this initiative.

The company has confirmed that both Oosterdam and the second vessel receiving refurbishment, Zuiderdam, will feature new bandstands at their Lido Pools as part of the transformation.

Executive Statement on the Ocean Bar Transformation

Michael Stendebach, Holland America Line’s senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division, said, “With the new Ocean Bar, we wanted to draw on the qualities that have made travel by sea so enduring, from its sense of elegance and occasion to the connections created along the way.” He added, “Inspired by our maritime heritage, including design details drawn from Rotterdam V, this reimagined venue creates a setting where guests can gather

for a cocktail, enjoy live music and immerse themselves in the refined elegance that has always been part of the Holland America experience.”

Passenger Experience Enhancements

The refurbished Ocean Bar offers guests improved bar services and an open, inviting ambiance designed to enhance social interaction and the enjoyment of live music. The interior melding of elegant Art Deco and nautical themes creates a fresh aesthetic while maintaining a classic cruise atmosphere. The venue’s updated layout and furnishings aim to elevate the onboard entertainment experience for passengers sailing on the Oosterdam from late 2027 onward.
