Vietjet will begin twice-weekly flights between Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) and Ho Chi Minh City from January 2027, operating Airbus A330 aircraft with up to 377 seats. Flight frequency will increase to three times weekly starting March 2027.
Vietjet’s sister company, Vietjet Thailand, intends to launch four weekly flights from WSI to Bangkok beginning November 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
The announcement coincided with the arrival of Vietnam’s President To Lam in Sydney and comes as WSI prepares to commence passenger operations in 76 days from August 10, 2026, with terminal testing, fit out, and final preparations underway. The
NSW Government supports the Ho Chi Minh City route through its Take-Off Fund initiative.
Vietjet joins Jetstar, Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Singapore Airlines as the fifth airline confirmed to serve Western Sydney International Airport. Fiji Airways has tentatively added a WSI to Nadi route from June next year, but this is unconfirmed.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated, “Western Sydney deserves an airport with global connections, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.” He praised the new Ho Chi Minh City flights as strengthening Australia-Vietnam ties and delivering international connectivity for Western Sydney. Federal Minister Catherine King called the announcement “a
sign of the momentum we’re seeing build at Sydney’s newest airport” as it nears passenger flight commencement. NSW Tourism Minister Steve Kamper said this is an exciting time for local tourism, businesses and jobs.
Vietjet began flying to Australia with Melbourne services in 2023 and has since expanded its destinations. Vietnam is one of Australia’s fastest-growing outbound travel destinations, showing consistent double-digit growth in visitation. Western Sydney International Airport aims to become a major gateway for international travel and expand connectivity in the region.
