Breeze Airways announced on October 13, 2026, plans to launch 11 new nonstop routes from Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) starting in 2027. This expansion will increase Breeze’s total nonstop destinations served from MYR to 25, positioning it as the airport’s largest airline once the routes go into service.

Growth Since Initial Service at Myrtle Beach

Breeze Airways began operating at Myrtle Beach International Airport in February 2024 with a single destination. Since then, the airline has more than doubled its seats and flights at the airport. Chief Guest Officer Dana Shapir Alviene stated that Breeze now carries over twice as many guests at Myrtle Beach compared

to a year ago.

Impact of Spirit Airlines’ Shutdown and Carrier Diversification

The airline’s expansion follows the shutdown of Spirit Airlines in May 2026. Spirit had held 23% of the Myrtle Beach airport market before ceasing operations. MYR spokesperson Ryan Betcher explained that the airport had been diversifying its carrier base since the pandemic to reduce reliance on any single airline.

Economic and Travel Benefits of New Routes

Judi Olmstead, director of airports at Myrtle Beach International Airport, said Breeze’s new nonstop routes will serve “high-demand markets” and the most requested cities by MYR travelers. Olmstead added these routes will help the local economy through job creation, increased tourism revenue, and new business opportunities.

Shapir Alviene described Myrtle Beach as a valuable partner and acknowledged the growth shows Breeze’s strengthening presence in the market.

Group Travel and Traveler Perspectives

Bob Harris, executive vice president of group sales for Visit Myrtle Beach, highlighted the importance of direct flights for conventions and sports groups traveling to the area. He noted that the new Breeze Airways routes will improve Myrtle Beach’s ability to attract large group travel.

Travelers interviewed by WMBF cited difficulties with connecting flights to Myrtle Beach, including missed connections and the need to route through hubs like Atlanta. Desiree Higgs and Brittanie Strickland expressed hope for nonstop flights from

locations such as Arkansas to Myrtle Beach to reduce layovers and improve convenience.

With Breeze Airways’ expanded flight network, residents and visitors to the Grand Strand area will have increased nonstop flight options, reduced travel times, and more flight frequencies at Myrtle Beach International Airport starting in 2027.
