A 51-year-old female passenger aboard the Bahamian-flagged Carnival Luminosa cruise ship developed symptoms consistent with a stroke, prompting a medical evacuation request at approximately 5:10 p.m. on July 16, 2026. The vessel was located roughly 45 miles offshore from Humboldt Bay, California, when Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay received the call for medical assistance.

Coast Guard Helicopter Medevac Amid Challenging Weather

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay was dispatched to perform the evacuation amid winds near 40 mph and seas measuring between 8 and 10 feet, approximately 45 miles offshore. The Coast Guard crew successfully hoisted the passenger from Carnival Luminosa and

transported her for immediate treatment at Mendocino Coast Hospital in Fort Bragg, California.

Patient Condition and Cruise Itinerary

Authorities reported the patient was in stable condition following transfer to Mendocino Coast Hospital, which provided further medical treatment after the airlift. Carnival Luminosa resumed its planned itinerary without any reported impact after the medical evacuation.
