Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun canceled its scheduled call in Sydney, Nova Scotia, originally set for October 21, due to adverse weather conditions that slowed the vessel’s progress during its transatlantic crossing. The ship will bypass Sydney and proceed directly to Halifax, Canada.
Revised Schedule in Halifax
Following the cancellation, Norwegian Sun is now expected in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, arriving 90 minutes earlier than the initially planned 10:00 a.m. departure remains at 7:00 p.m. on the same day, granting passengers an extra 90 minutes ashore compared to the original schedule.
Excursion Changes and Passenger Guidance
All shore excursions booked through Norwegian Cruise Line for Sydney
have been automatically canceled with full refunds credited directly to passengers’ onboard accounts. Passengers aiming to book excursions for Halifax are directed to the Shore Excursions Desk located on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Sun for assistance.
Original Itinerary and Upcoming Ports
The Norwegian Sun departed Southampton, United Kingdom, on October 12, calling at Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland before crossing the North Atlantic. After the revised Halifax call and an added day at sea replacing Sydney, the ship is scheduled to arrive in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24.
Official Statements from Captain Teo Radun
Captain Teo Radun, in a letter to passengers
dated October 19, confirmed the cancellation and apologized for the disruption caused by the itinerary change. He assured passengers that there are no safety concerns for the vessel, crew, or passengers, and stated that the ship’s crew will continue monitoring weather conditions during the transit to Halifax.
