Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun cancelled its scheduled stop in Sydney, Nova Scotia on October 21 due to adverse weather conditions slowing its transatlantic crossing. The vessel diverted directly to Halifax, Nova Scotia to maintain timeline continuity and passenger safety.
Rerouting to Halifax Adjusts Arrival and Departure Times
The ship’s Sydney port call was replaced with an additional day at sea. Norwegian Sun is now expected to arrive in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, two hours earlier than the original 10:00 a.m. ETA. Departure from Halifax remains at 7:00 p.m. on October 22, giving passengers an extra 90 minutes ashore compared to the initial schedule.
Passenger Impact and Shore Excursion Adjustments
Passengers
lost the opportunity to visit Sydney, Nova Scotia, where all Norwegian Cruise Line–booked shore excursions were cancelled and will be refunded automatically to onboard accounts. Travelers wishing to arrange activities in Halifax were directed to the Shore Excursions Desk located on Deck 5 of the vessel.
Official Statements and Safety Assurance
Captain Teo Radun informed passengers on October 19 of the itinerary change, acknowledging its effect and apologizing for the disruption. He confirmed there were no safety issues for passengers and crew and stated the cruise team would continue to monitor weather conditions en route to Halifax.
Norwegian Sun began its journey from Southampton, England
on October 12, with scheduled stops at Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland before underway transatlantic. After the altered call in Halifax and extra day at sea, the vessel remains set to dock in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24, according to www.cruisemapper.com.
