The cruise ship Norwegian Sun, operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, canceled its scheduled October 21 port call in Sydney, Nova Scotia, due to adverse weather conditions which slowed its progress during the transatlantic crossing. The ship was rerouted directly to Halifax, Nova Scotia, replacing the Sydney stop with an additional day at sea.

Revised Arrival and Departure Times in Halifax

Norwegian Sun is now expected to arrive in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, earlier than the original 10:00 a.m. arrival time. The ship will depart at 7:00 p.m. on the same day, providing passengers with an additional 90 minutes ashore compared to the original schedule.

Passenger Impact and Excursion Changes

All shore excursions booked through Norwegian Cruise Line for the Sydney port call have been automatically canceled, with passengers receiving full refunds credited to their onboard accounts. Passengers were advised to contact the Shore Excursions Desk located on Deck 5 to arrange new excursions while in Halifax.

Official Communication and Safety Assurance

In a letter sent to passengers on October 19, Captain Teo Radun confirmed the cancellation of the Sydney port call and apologized for the itinerary disruption. He assured passengers that there were no safety concerns for passengers or crew, with ongoing monitoring of weather conditions during the voyage to Halifax.

Voyage Route and Schedule

The voyage originally

departed Southampton, United Kingdom, on October 12 with scheduled calls in Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland before crossing the Atlantic. The revised itinerary preserves the scheduled arrival in New York City, United States, expected at 7:00 a.m. on October 24.
