Severe thunderstorms on June 28, 2026, resulted in significant disruption at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, affecting over 900 flights. The weather conditions led to widespread delays and cancellations across various domestic and international routes at both airports.

As a consequence of the disruptions, approximately 40,000 passengers were stranded, experiencing extended waiting times and travel plan interruptions. The severe weather followed a period of heatwave conditions in the UK, abruptly impacting airport operations and passenger movements.

Passengers at Heathrow and Gatwick have faced cancellations and delays throughout the day, which have contributed to considerable congestion in terminals and ongoing challenges

for airlines and airport staff. Travelers are advised to check flight status updates directly with their airlines before traveling to the airport to stay informed of the latest operational conditions.
