Skagen port in Denmark has confirmed the awarding of a significant contract valued at DKK 85 million. The agreement covers the installation of a shore power system designed specifically for cruise vessels docking at the facility.

Advancing Environmental Infrastructure for Cruise Ships

This installation project forms part of the port’s commitment to upgrading its environmental infrastructure to support cruise ship operations. The shore power system will enable ships to connect to an onshore electrical supply while docked, reducing reliance on onboard power generation and aiming to lower emissions during port stays.

The contract award was publicly announced in mid-2026, marking a step toward enhancing sustainable practices

at Skagen port. Details regarding the timeline of the installation and which cruise lines will utilize the new system have not yet been disclosed.

The move reflects an ongoing effort to provide greener solutions within port facilities, addressing environmental concerns associated with cruise ship activities.
