On August 21, 2026, Royal Caribbean announced the cancellation of multiple U.S. sailings originally scheduled for August 2026 as part of a strategic redeployment of ships for its 2027-28 season.

The cruises affected were planned to depart from Los Angeles with itineraries including ports in Mexico. The cancellations impact two ships: Navigator of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas.

Navigator of the Seas Redeployment to Asia-Pacific

The Navigator of the Seas will reposition to the Asia-Pacific region operating year-round from October 2026 through October 2027. The ship will offer shorter cruises ranging from two to five nights around Southeast Asia, visiting countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia,

and Thailand.

In addition, Navigator of the Seas will run a 12-night voyage between Tokyo, Japan, and Singapore. These Asia-based itineraries are now available for booking.

Ovation of the Seas Moves to Australia

Ovation of the Seas is scheduled to relocate to Brisbane, Australia, for the 2027-28 cruising season starting in November 2027. The ship’s itineraries will vary from three to eight nights, including four-night cruises to Airlie Beach within Queensland’s Whitsunday region.

Its routes will encompass multiple destinations around Australia and nearby areas, reflecting the company’s Asia-Pacific market expansion.

Freedom of the Seas Cancellations and Southampton Redeployment

Earlier in 2026, Royal Caribbean also canceled more than 20 planned summer 2027 cruises aboard Freedom of

the Seas. Those cancellations resulted from the ship’s redeployment to Southampton, England, for the 2027 season.

Passenger Impact and Official Statements

Guests and travel partners affected by the August 2026 cancellations were contacted directly with details and options. Passengers could rebook on alternative Royal Caribbean sailings, transfer to select ships, or receive full refunds including prepaid add-ons if no acceptable alternatives were available.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson explained, “Deployment planning is dynamic and regularly reviewed based on demand, capacity requirements, and broader fleet considerations.” The company emphasized its commitment to offering quality vacation experiences, stating, “This process includes making updates to itineraries, as necessary, to

accommodate scheduling, port agreements, and other operational considerations.”
