The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) initiated the deployment of its V-Pass biometric facial recognition identity verification system across Nigerian domestic airports beginning in July 2026.

Partnerships Driving V-Pass Development

FAAN developed the V-Pass system in collaboration with Verxid Technologies. The biometric verification software powering V-Pass was provided by Abuja-based Barnksforte Technologies, which specializes in AI-powered identity solutions.

Capabilities and System Infrastructure

V-Pass enables passengers to verify their identities using facial recognition technology. It incorporates a Central Management System designed to track passenger movement, generate analytics, and facilitate future integration with other airport operations and systems.

Impact on Passenger Processing

The system is expected to speed up identity verification for travelers

using Nigeria’s domestic airports, enhancing access control and boarding procedures under FAAN’s digital transformation strategy.

Global Context of Biometric Adoption

Biometric boarding technologies like V-Pass are increasingly adopted at airports worldwide, with over 43% of airports implementing such systems. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates biometric identity confirmation can reduce passenger processing times by up to 40%. Digital travel credentials are projected to surpass 1.2 billion passengers globally by 2035.
