American Express announced on October 22, 2026, that its Platinum Card will discontinue its traditional one-night hotel statement credits starting January 1, 2027, while expanding travel benefits to include Airbnb stays.
The $600 annual lodging statement credit offered to Amex Platinum Card and Business Platinum Card holders will be split into two $300 credits valid for January through June and July through December. These credits will now cover prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings made via Amex Travel or the Amex Travel App, augmenting existing uses on Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection.
Cardmembers with the Platinum and Business Platinum
cards will earn 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on eligible prepaid Airbnb stays booked through Amex Travel, including Airbnb Luxe and standard Airbnb properties. Other eligible Membership Rewards cards earn 2 points per dollar on comparable bookings.
Starting January 1, 2027, all lodging statement credit redemptions, including those for Fine Hotels + Resorts, The Hotel Collection, and Airbnb Luxe, will require a minimum two-night stay. One-night stays through Fine Hotels + Resorts remain bookable but will no longer qualify for statement credits after this date, aligning the minimum stay requirement across all eligible platforms.
The Platinum Card now
includes an additional annual statement credit of up to $250 for eligible Airbnb Experiences, which is unlocked upon booking an Airbnb Luxe stay through Amex Travel. This credit can be utilized on Airbnb directly and applies to Experiences booked during the same calendar year as the Luxe stay confirmation, regardless of when or where the Experience takes place.
Airbnb Luxe features private homes globally selected for quality, design, and distinctive settings in sought-after destinations. For example, a two-night Airbnb Luxe stay in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, costing $874 before credits, could effectively be reduced to $574 after applying a $300 lodging statement
credit.
The addition of Airbnb Luxe and Experiences to Amex Platinum’s benefits expands accommodation and activity options beyond hotels. However, cardholders who previously used credits for single-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stays must adapt to the two-night minimum stay requirement set to take effect in 2027.
Overall, these changes adjust the Platinum Card’s travel benefits to favor longer stays and Airbnb bookings while offering increased Membership Rewards point earnings and new credits for Experiences.
