American Airlines announced the launch of seven new daily international routes starting in 2027, introducing three new destinations and increasing service frequency between New York and London. Tickets for these flights will be available for purchase from August 31, 2026, through the airline’s official website and mobile application.
Philadelphia Gains Three New International Destinations
Philadelphia International Airport will see the addition of flights to Porto, Portugal; Vienna, Austria; and Reykjavik, Iceland. Service to Porto and Vienna represents entirely new entries into American Airlines’ network, while the Reykjavik route resumes for the first time since 2019. The Philadelphia-to-Porto route will start on March 28, 2027, followed by
Philadelphia-to-Vienna on May 6 and Philadelphia-to-Reykjavik on May 27. American Airlines will be the only U.S. carrier to serve Vienna. The Vienna service is seasonal and will operate through early January 2028, covering the winter holiday travel period.
Expanded New York JFK Network and London Heathrow Slots
From New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, American Airlines will begin nonstop flights to Amsterdam on March 28, 2027, and to Nice, France, on May 6, 2027. The airline also plans to restore a fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow starting March 28, 2027. Combined with British Airways, American will offer up to 14 daily flights connecting New York
and London, strengthening its presence on this key transatlantic corridor.
Chicago, Charlotte, and Miami Routes Target Seasonal Demand
American Airlines will launch a Chicago O’Hare to Tokyo Narita route on March 19, 2027, to address rising demand linked to Japan’s cherry blossom season. A new Charlotte to Barcelona service will commence on May 27, 2027, marking Charlotte Douglas International Airport as the sixth American gateway serving Barcelona. Seasonal routes from Charlotte to Paris and Miami to Milan will start earlier on March 4, 2027, responding to increased spring travel interest to Europe.
The airline’s recent international network expansions follow its August 2026 announcement of a cabin upgrade affecting
over 800 narrowbody aircraft. Upgrades include new 4K entertainment screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-C charging ports, aiming to enhance the onboard experience.
Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, indicated the expanded international network now offers destinations suited to diverse traveler preferences. He highlighted the airline’s investments in onboard product and inflight service as additional incentives for customers to select American Airlines for global travel, according to Fox Business.
