American Airlines announced it will introduce seven new daily international routes starting in 2027, with tickets available from August 31, 2026, via its website and app. The planned expansion includes three new destinations and increased service between New York and London.
Philadelphia Gains Three New International Routes
Philadelphia International Airport will add nonstop flights to Porto, Portugal; Vienna, Austria; and Reykjavik, Iceland. Services to Porto and Vienna are new American Airlines destinations, with flights to Porto beginning March 28, 2027, and Vienna launching May 6, 2027. The Vienna route will operate seasonally through early January 2028, covering the winter holiday period. American Airlines will be the
sole U.S. airline serving Vienna. Flights to Reykjavik resume on May 27, 2027, reinstating service for the first time since 2019.
Expanded Service at New York’s JFK Airport
John F. Kennedy International Airport will start nonstop flights to Amsterdam on March 28, 2027, and to Nice, France, on May 6, 2027. On the same March date, American will restore a fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow. With its partner British Airways, American Airlines will operate up to 14 daily flights between New York and London, intensifying capacity on this high-demand transatlantic corridor.
Additional Routes from Chicago, Charlotte, and Miami
Chicago O’Hare International Airport will offer a new nonstop service to Tokyo Narita
beginning March 19, 2027, timed to capture demand during Japan’s cherry blossom season. Charlotte Douglas International Airport will launch a new route to Barcelona, Spain, on May 27, 2027, making Charlotte the sixth U.S. gateway American uses to serve Barcelona. Seasonal routes from Charlotte to Paris and Miami International Airport to Milan have been advanced to start on March 4, 2027.
The airline’s network strategy targets growing international travel demand with a diverse set of city pairs and increased frequencies.
Onboard Experience Upgrades Accompany Network Growth
Alongside route expansions, American Airlines announced upgrades to the inflight entertainment system on over 800 narrowbody aircraft. The enhancements include
4K displays, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-C charging ports. Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, emphasized the combination of network expansion and inflight product improvements as providing travelers additional incentives to choose American Airlines for international travel.
