Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun has canceled its scheduled call at Sydney, Nova Scotia, on October 21 due to adverse weather conditions that slowed the vessel during its transatlantic crossing.
The ship will bypass Sydney and proceed directly to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The revised schedule sets the vessel’s arrival in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, 90 minutes ahead of the original 10:00 a.m. arrival time. Departure from Halifax remains scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the same day. The itinerary adjustment includes replacing the Sydney port call with an additional day at sea.
Passengers who had booked shore excursions
in Sydney through Norwegian Cruise Line have had those reservations automatically canceled with full refunds credited to their onboard accounts. Those wishing to arrange excursions in Halifax can do so at the Shore Excursions Desk located on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Sun.
Norwegian Sun embarked from Southampton, United Kingdom, on October 12, with scheduled stops in Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland before crossing the Atlantic. After the adjusted call in Halifax and a day at sea, the vessel is planned to arrive in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24.
Captain Teo Radun
informed passengers of the cancellation and itinerary changes in a letter dated October 19. He indicated that safety remains the priority and confirmed there are no safety concerns related to the adjustments. The captain also apologized for the disruption caused by the weather-induced changes.
