Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun has canceled its scheduled visit to Sydney, Nova Scotia, originally planned for October 21, 2026, after adverse weather conditions slowed the vessel’s progress during its transatlantic crossing. Passengers received official notification of the cancellation in a letter dated October 19, 2026, sent by Captain Teo Radun.
Revised Itinerary and Port Call Changes
The ship will bypass Sydney and proceed directly to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The new itinerary provides an additional day at sea, with the Norwegian Sun now expected to dock in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, 2026, advancing the original arrival time from 10:00 a.m. Departure from Halifax
remains scheduled for 7:00 p.m. that same day, extending passengers’ time ashore by an extra 90 minutes compared to the original plan.
Impact on Shore Excursions and Passenger Arrangements
All shore excursions in Sydney booked through Norwegian Cruise Line have been canceled automatically, and passengers will receive full refunds credited to their onboard accounts without needing to take further action. Passengers interested in excursions in Halifax are directed to make their arrangements at the Shore Excursions Desk located on Deck 5.
Cruise Route and Official Statements
The Norwegian Sun departed Southampton, United Kingdom, on October 12, 2026, with scheduled stops in Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland, before beginning
its transatlantic crossing to North America. The vessel remains on schedule to arrive in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24, 2026.
Captain Teo Radun confirmed the itinerary adjustment and expressed regret for the disruption to passengers. He reassured that no safety concerns are present for passengers or crew, noting that the ship’s crew will continue to monitor weather conditions as they approach Halifax.
