Virgin Voyages has cancelled Brilliant Lady’s seven-night Halloween sailing originally scheduled to depart from Los Angeles on October 30, 2027, due to a private charter booking, according to Cruise Mummy. Passengers booked on the voyage were directly notified of the cancellation.
The original Halloween itinerary was set to include calls at San Diego, Ensenada, and Cabo San Lucas before returning to Los Angeles on November 6, 2027. Following this, the subsequent Mexican Riviera cruise departing November 6 from Los Angeles was split into two shorter voyages: a four-night cruise visiting Catalina Island and Ensenada, and a three-night cruise calling only
at Ensenada.
Virgin Voyages offered passengers on the cancelled Halloween sailing two main options: transfer to any alternative seven-night voyage leaving Los Angeles between September 18 and November 13, 2027, with original fare and promotions honored plus a $100 onboard credit, or a full refund to their original payment method. Those booked on the November 6 sailing that was divided may switch to either the three-night or four-night replacement, with payments applied and a $100 onboard credit included.
The cruise line cited the private charter booking as the reason for the Halloween cruise cancellation, stating, “Due to a private charter,
this voyage has been canceled.” Private charters guarantee full ship revenue because the entire vessel is purchased, eliminating the financial risk of unsold cabins. Virgin Voyages prioritizes private charters due to economic benefits and has previously cancelled other cruises for private charters, including Scarlet Lady’s April 19, 2026 Caribbean sailing for the Summit at Sea event.
Brilliant Lady is Virgin Voyages’ third ship and serves as their West Coast flagship with a guest capacity of 2,770. The ship’s Los Angeles homeport supports the cruise line’s West Coast strategy, positioning Los Angeles as a base for Mexican Riviera itineraries featuring stops
such as San Diego, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and Catalina Island on shorter voyages. Virgin Voyages operates an adults-only cruising concept with contemporary amenities and no traditional buffet dining.
Passengers affected by the schedule changes expressed frustration, especially those booked on both consecutive sailings. One passenger shared on social media, “Kind of bummed out, was really looking forward to it,” and added, “Now to figure out where to cruise next but to add insult to injury I’ve got MNVV [My Next Virgin Voyage] on both sailings and took advantage of the pay in full discount that’s no longer an option.”
Passengers coordinating flights, accommodations, and excursions around these itineraries will face disruptions amid the fall 2027 schedule adjustments.
