JW Marriott officially opened its inaugural all-inclusive resort, the JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa, in October 2026 on the northwest coast of Costa Rica. The property is located in Guanacaste and was developed by Mullen Real Estate Capital through the redevelopment of the former Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica resort.
Resort Size, Accommodation, and Pool Facilities
The resort features 415 guest rooms alongside the Griffin Club, a hotel-within-a-hotel offering privacy, butler service, dedicated pool and beach access, and a 24/7 lounge. JW Marriott described the resort poolscape as “the largest resort poolscape in Costa Rica,” covering 44,000 square feet. The resort also includes pool
cabanas, a large garden, a modern fitness center, and a kids club launched under the Family by JW program.
Amenities, Wellness, and Culinary Offerings
The Spa by JW spans over 9,000 square feet and provides full-body massages, treatments, and kid-friendly spa services. The resort features JW Marriott’s first Mindfulness House, a sanctuary designed for reflection and well-being beside untouched forest shaded by a native Guanacaste tree. There are 15 bars, restaurants, and culinary venues offering buffet, Japanese, seafood, Italian, and Costa Rican cuisine. A culinary school offers interactive cooking sessions focused on local dishes and cooking skills. The property also includes JW Marriott’s first stand-alone
root beer stand, a nod to J.W. Marriott Sr.’s original business.
Booking Information and Guest Experience
Room rates through the end of 2026 start at $656 per night for two guests. Marriott Bonvoy members can book stays beginning at 110,000 points per night. The resort offers a full calendar of activities including a weekly local shopping market and guided kayaking. Family enrichment and wellness programs are available through the Family by JW Club. JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa began accepting guests in October 2026.
