JW Marriott officially opened its first all-inclusive property, the Costa Elena Resort & Spa, on the northwest coast of Costa Rica in Guanacaste in early October 2026.
Resort Size and Design
The resort comprises 415 rooms and was developed through a complete transformation of the former Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica by Mullen Real Estate Capital. The design integrates traditional Costa Rican architecture, including influences from the Bribri and Cabécar Indigenous peoples. Within the resort, the Griffin Club operates as a hotel-within-a-hotel offering guests privacy, butler service, a private pool, beach access, and a 24/7 lounge.
Amenities and Facilities
The Costa Elena Resort features a 44,000 square
foot pool area, described by Marriott as “the largest resort poolscape in Costa Rica.” Additional amenities include pool cabanas, a large garden, a modern fitness center, and a kids club. The Family by JW program delivers enrichment and wellness experiences for families. Spa by JW occupies over 9,000 square feet, offering full-body massages, treatments, and kid-friendly options. The resort also introduced JW’s first Mindfulness House, a sanctuary set adjacent to untouched forest beneath a native Guanacaste tree.
Dining and Guest Experiences
The property includes 15 bars, restaurants, and culinary experiences presenting an array of international options including seafood, Japanese, Italian, Costa Rican, and an
international buffet. The resort operates a culinary school, providing interactive sessions that teach guests local cooking techniques. JW Marriott launched its first standalone root beer stand at the resort, honoring the brand’s founder J.W. Marriott Sr.
Activities and Pricing
Activities available at the resort include a weekly local shopping market, guided kayaking excursions, and the Family by JW Club for kids focusing on enrichment and wellness. Rates at the Costa Elena Resort start at $656 per night for two guests through the end of 2026. Marriott Bonvoy members can redeem stays beginning at 110,000 points per night.
