Passengers on the South Essex rail line should expect delays exceeding two hours on October 5, 2026, due to speed restrictions imposed between Wickford and Southminster stations. Disruption on this route is anticipated until around 9:45am, affecting services in both directions including those bound for London Liverpool Street.

Operational Impacts and Passenger Advice

The speed restrictions have delayed Greater Anglia services to and from Wickford and Southminster, which lie on the route towards the London Liverpool Street terminus. Some trains heading to London may be affected by the reduced speeds on this section of track.

Greater Anglia has confirmed that advance purchase ticket holders can

use earlier or later trains if their scheduled service is canceled. Passengers experiencing delays of 15 minutes or more are eligible to claim compensation under Greater Anglia’s Delay Repay scheme.

Greater Anglia and Network Rail issued an apology for the disruption stating: “Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.” Passengers are advised to prepare for extended travel times, possible train substitutions, and to seek compensation if delays exceed the 15-minute threshold.
