Carnival Cruise Line has opened bookings for its newest vessel, the Carnival Tropicale, which will begin operations from Galveston, Texas starting April 15, 2028. The ship marks Carnival’s expansion of cruise options from Texas with advance reservations available for the inaugural 2028 cruise season.
Cruise Itineraries and Destinations
The Carnival Tropicale will offer multiple cruise durations including four, five, six, and eight-day itineraries. Sailings will cover the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico. Passengers can visit ports in Carnival’s exclusive Paradise Collection such as Celebration Key, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, Isla Tropicale, and Puerta Maya. Additional stops include Progreso and Nassau, providing a diverse selection of
destinations from its Texas homeport.
Onboard Entertainment and Water Park Features
The ship will feature Sunsation Point, a multi-level family entertainment area centered around Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, which is branded as Carnival’s most family-friendly water park at sea. This water park includes six distinct water slides, including SunSoaker, Turning Tides, and Racing Currents, plus designated water play areas for younger guests. Additional leisure options consist of a refreshed Fairway 66 mini golf course inspired by Route 66, sports courts, the Treehouse Adventure Trail with nets and obstacles, and The Vault Retrocade offering both classic and modern arcade games.
New Culinary Concepts and Dining
Carnival Tropicale will launch new culinary venues as
part of The Next Course dining collection. These include Uku Lei Lei, featuring Hawaiian-inspired cuisine with Asian influences; Fetaccine, combining Greek and Italian flavors; and Emeril’s Coastal Seafood, a seafood restaurant designed in collaboration with Carnival Culinary Director Chef Emeril Lagasse. These dining options aim to deliver a global range of flavors for passengers.
Shipyard Celebration and Corporate Statements
To mark the launch of Carnival Tropicale reservations, Carnival Cruise Line and MEYER WERFT held a Western-themed event at the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The celebration included Texas-inspired décor, cowboy hats, western attire, and a Texas-style barbecue attended by executives from both companies. Carnival’s
Executive Vice President of Marine Operations and Newbuilds, Ben Clement, said, “Today is a very special day for Carnival Tropicale, as guests can begin planning their vacations aboard this incredible new ship.” CEO of MEYER WERFT, André Walter, who assumed the role on July 1, 2026, added, “Carnival Tropicale is the fifth Excel-class ship we have built for Carnival Cruise Line, a highly successful and popular series that reflects our long-standing partnership with Carnival.”
Excel-Class Series and Partnership
The Carnival Tropicale is the fifth and final ship in Carnival Cruise Line’s Excel-class series, constructed by MEYER WERFT in Germany. The ship will honor its
Texas homeport by displaying the Star of Texas on its bow. The Excel-class series has demonstrated strong performance and popularity, reinforcing the ongoing collaboration between Carnival Cruise Line and MEYER WERFT. Carnival Tropicale is designed to feature state-of-the-art entertainment, dining, and family-friendly amenities aligning with Carnival’s signature vacation experience at sea.
