Alaska Route Changes Reduce Stops to Two
The revised itinerary removes four destinations previously planned on the original route. Sitka, Juneau, Endicott Arm/Dawes Glacier scenic cruising, and Icy Strait Point have been cut. The voyage will still include calls at Ketchikan—Alaska’s “Salmon Capital”—and Prince Rupert,
British Columbia, known for its indigenous culture. Passengers will also experience scenic cruising through the Inside Passage twice, northbound and returning to Vancouver.
Passenger Compensation and Travel Reimbursements
Passengers affected by the changes can opt to continue with the shortened cruise or cancel for a full refund. Those continuing receive onboard credit equal to two days of cruise fare per guest and a future cruise credit matching this amount. Hotel stays in Vancouver for the additional two nights are reimbursed up to $300 per stateroom per night, capped at $600 total. Airfare change fees are reimbursed up to $200 per guest for domestic flights and
$400 for international flights.
Onboard Options During Docked Period and Facility Limitations
Guests may board the ship on the original embarkation dates of August 30 or 31 to remain onboard while the vessel is docked for maintenance. During this time, passengers cannot disembark in Vancouver. Onboard shops and the casino will be closed, though select bars, lounges, and spa services will be available. Entertainment offerings are expected to be limited while the ship is in port.
Serenade of the Seas Background and Previous Issues
Launched in 2003 as part of Royal Caribbean’s Radiance class, Serenade of the Seas carries approximately 2,490 passengers at double occupancy. The ship has faced mechanical challenges before, including a reduced speed
issue in June 2025 that led to cancellation of an Icy Strait Point port call. The current maintenance delay is attributed to critical upkeep, though Royal Caribbean has not specified the exact work involved.
