A man fell overboard from the Ambassador Cruise Lines vessel MS Ambition approximately 36 nautical miles off Arbroath on the east coast of Scotland at 08:35 on Friday, August 21, 2026. His body was recovered later the same day following a major multi-agency search involving coastguard aircraft, lifeboat crews, and coastguard teams.

Multi-Agency Search Efforts

The search operation included coastguard aircraft from Prestwick and Carlisle, a commercial search and rescue helicopter, lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, and coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath, and St Andrews working together to locate the missing man.

Cruise Itinerary and Vessel Movements

MS Ambition was on its return voyage to Dundee

following a solar eclipse cruise that included stops in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The ship had docked in Lerwick before returning to Dundee on the day of the incident. After the body was recovered, MS Ambition left Dundee shortly after 18:00 on August 21, 2026, to sail to Newcastle, United Kingdom.

Police Scotland confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. The man’s identity has not been released, but his next of kin were informed.
