Dong Thap Province has announced a goal to attract 50 million visitors from 2026 through 2030, establishing tourism as a core driver of its economic expansion.
Tourism Development and Product Diversification
The province’s strategy concentrates on expanding ecotourism, orchard tourism, agricultural and rural tourism, cultural tourism, and wellness tourism that integrates healthcare and medical treatment. Plans also include developing historical heritage tours connected to traditional education and preserving local cultural values. Community-based tourism will be expanded, while efforts will be made to diversify tourism products and improve service quality nationwide and regionally.
Regional Cooperation and Tourism Corridors
Dong Thap aims to enhance collaboration with Mekong Delta provinces, the southeastern region
of Vietnam, Can Tho City, and neighboring localities to boost tourism development. The province plans to utilize high-potential tourism corridors such as the Go Cong coastal area, the Soai Rap area, and the Tien and Hau rivers. These corridors will help integrate attractions inside and beyond the province to create distinctive tourism offerings.
Visitor Growth, Revenue Projections, and Employment
The province targets an average annual visitor growth rate of 9 percent between 2026 and 2030, with approximately six million international visitors expected during that period and international arrival growth anticipated at 15 percent annually. Tourism revenue is forecast to reach VND 35 trillion (around USD 1.34
billion) by 2030, growing at an average of 15 percent per year. By the same year, Dong Thap plans to have about 700 accommodation establishments with 15,000 rooms meeting tourism standards. Employment in tourism is projected to reach at least 60,000 workers, including 15,000 direct employees.
According to the Dong Thap Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026 reached nearly 59 percent of the annual target, reflecting a 16 percent increase compared to the first half of 2025. International arrivals totaled approximately 350,000, a 5.7 percent rise, while tourism revenue hit an estimated
VND 2.45 trillion (approximately USD 93.8 million), surpassing half of the yearly target and increasing by 7 percent over the previous year.
In the second quarter of 2026 alone, Dong Thap recorded around 1.75 million visitors, generating tourism revenue of VND 915 billion (approximately USD 35 million).
