EVB has retained its contract to operate regional passenger train services, continuing to run trains on its network despite facing challenges with hydrogen train availability.

The company highlighted ongoing supply issues with hydrogen-powered trains, which could lead to operational limitations and impact service reliability in the near term.

EVB is currently leasing hydrogen trains but reports that shortages in spare parts and manufacturer efforts to improve fuel cell reliability have reduced fleet availability to roughly half the intended number of units.

To manage capacity shortages, EVB has supplemented its fleet with diesel multiple-units, but these units cannot fully offset the

limited hydrogen train availability, particularly during peak times.

EVB has also been operating some services with fewer train units to avoid cancellations amid these capacity constraints.
