Rail services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton were suspended following an emergency incident at around 07:35 BST on July 31, 2026. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, which resulted in the closure of the rail lines connecting these locations.
Service Impact and Replacement Transport
Train operations faced cancellations and delays reaching up to 90 minutes on West Midlands Railway routes between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street. Transport for Wales services running between Llandudno Junction, Crewe, and Birmingham International were also disrupted. During the closure, rail replacement bus services were provided to accommodate affected passengers.
Restoration of Services
National Rail confirmed that all affected rail lines reopened by 13:00
BST on the same day. Following the reopening, train services resumed normal operations along the routes between Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, and Birmingham.
