Origins and Impact of World Travel Expo on Cebu’s Tourism
The World Travel
Expo was started to create a place for discovery, connection, and sharing of travel stories. Miles Caballero, Managing Director of Ad Asia Events Group OPC, said, “When we started World Travel Expo, our hope was to create a place where people could discover new destinations, build meaningful connections, and experience the stories behind travel.” He added, “This 10-year celebration is a reminder that the best journeys are never created alone. They are shaped by people who come together with a common purpose and a shared belief in what can be achieved.”
Economic Significance of Tourism in Cebu and Regional Collaboration
Tourism is a major economic driver in Central Visayas,
supporting sectors beyond travel such as tour guides, transport drivers, eateries, and handicraft artists. HRRAC President Mia Faye D. Singson-Leon stated, “Because tourism is not just an industry that stands alone. Our tourism is connected to the economic lifeline of this island. A visitor who comes to Cebu creates value far beyond a hotel booking or an airline ticket.”
The OIC-Regional Director of DOT Region VII highlighted inbound tourism and reciprocity, saying, “Every traveler abroad should bring home at least one visitor. Bring them home. Bring them to your hometown. Bring them to Cebu. Bring them to our heritage district.
Outbound creates movement; inbound creates the momentum that no one can stop. Reciprocity keeps the cycle stable.”
Provincial Tourism Officer Rowena “Weng” Montecillo described the Expo as an important platform to connect Cebu’s diverse tourism offerings with potential markets and build opportunities for local enterprises and communities.
Traveler Benefits and Event Opportunities
The event consolidates travel options under one roof at Ayala Center Cebu, enabling travelers to efficiently organize their plans in a single visit. It offers direct access to travel specialists and a wide variety of tourism stakeholders, reinforcing Cebu’s growth as a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) hub.
The expo fosters long-term
economic partnerships by connecting local tourism enterprises with international and domestic markets, supporting sustainable growth for the region.
