Train services between Redditch and Four Oaks have been suspended since early morning on November 5, 2026, due to a signalling fault between University and Five Ways stations on the Cross City Line.
Rail replacement buses commenced operation at 6:15 am, running in both directions between Redditch and Longbridge. West Midlands Railway confirmed that passengers can use their train tickets on West Midlands Bus services 45 and 47 between Four Oaks, Birmingham, and Longbridge as an alternative travel option.
Services between Bromsgrove and Lichfield Trent Valley continue to run without disruption. Trains remain in operation between Northfield and Birmingham New
Street, according to West Midlands Railway.
The signalling fault has also affected a range of CrossCountry routes, including services between Plymouth and Derby, Leeds, York, Edinburgh, Bristol Temple Meads, and Stansted Airport. Additionally, routes connecting Cardiff Central with Nottingham and Derby are impacted.
Passengers holding tickets for cancelled trains are permitted to travel on alternative rail services operated by participating companies up to two hours before or after their original departure time. Full refunds are available for journeys that cannot be completed. Compensation claims may be submitted by those delayed, with the requirement to retain tickets and journey details.
Passengers
are advised to allow extra time for their journeys as replacement vehicles are expected to be busy. Real-time journey information updates are available via the National Rail Journey Planner, and travellers should verify schedules before departing. Birmingham New Street station has recommended seeking alternative routes where possible.
