Virgin Voyages has canceled Brilliant Lady’s Halloween cruise originally scheduled to depart Los Angeles on October 30, 2027, citing a private charter as the reason for the cancellation. The seven-night voyage was to visit San Diego, Ensenada, and Cabo San Lucas before returning to Los Angeles on November 6, 2027. Passengers affected by this cancellation received direct notifications from Virgin Voyages confirming the disruption and expressing regret for the inconvenience.

Changes to November 6 Mexican Riviera Voyage

Virgin Voyages also adjusted Brilliant Lady’s following itinerary, the seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise departing November 6, 2027. The original itinerary has been split into two shorter voyages: a four-night cruise

calling at Catalina Island and Ensenada, and a three-night cruise with a single call at Ensenada. These replacement cruises offer shorter alternatives during the same period but appear not to have been listed yet on the cruise line’s public website at the time of passenger notification.

Passenger Compensation and Rebooking Options

Passengers booked on the canceled Halloween cruise may rebook on any alternative seven-night sailing from Los Angeles departing between September 18 and November 13, 2027, with their original fare and benefits intact. These guests will also receive a $100 onboard credit. Alternatively, they can choose a full refund of their cruise fare. Those booked

on the modified November 6 sailing can opt to join either of the new shorter itineraries with payments applied and also receive $100 in onboard credit.

Private Charter Prioritization and Financial Rationale

Virgin Voyages prioritized private charters over scheduled sailings to secure guaranteed full revenue through the wholesale purchase of all ship cabins. This financial approach protects against revenue losses caused by unsold cabins on traditional cruises. The cruise line demonstrated this strategy previously by canceling Scarlet Lady’s April 19, 2026 Caribbean sailing to accommodate a charter for Summit at Sea.

Brilliant Lady Ship Features and West Coast Strategy

Brilliant Lady operates as Virgin Voyages’ West Coast flagship with a guest capacity of 2,770.

It markets an adult-only experience without traditional buffets and offers boutique entertainment and wellness-focused amenities. The vessel’s homeport in Los Angeles facilitates access to Mexican Riviera destinations, supporting Virgin Voyages’ strategy to differentiate itself in the California cruise market by appealing to modern cruisers seeking innovative onboard experiences.

Passenger Reactions and Booking Complexities

Some guests expressed disappointment on social media regarding the cancellations and itinerary changes, particularly those who had booked consecutive cruises and used Virgin Voyages’ My Next Virgin Voyage promotional credits. One passenger commented, “Kind of bummed out, was really looking forward to it,” and noted complications relating to how the promotional booking

benefits transfer. These situations highlight the challenges passengers face in managing benefits across multiple bookings disrupted by the cancellations.
