Inbound travel to Greece in August 2026 recorded a 13.4% increase with 8.46 million arrivals, compared to 7.46 million visitors in August 2025, according to provisional data from money-tourism.gr.

Travel receipts for the month reached €4.91 billion unadjusted, up 13.4% from €4.33 billion in August 2025. Applying July 2026’s statistical adjustment factors projects final adjusted receipts for August at approximately €5.89 billion, compared with an estimated €5.20 billion in the same month last year, indicating about 13.1% growth year-on-year.

Overnight Stays and Length of Visit

Total overnight stays increased by 2.6% from 40.67 million in August 2025 to 41.73 million in August 2026. Despite this rise,

the average length of stay declined by 9.5%, from 5.45 nights per traveller to 4.93 nights. This suggests visitors stayed fewer days on average even though more tourists arrived.

July 2026 Adjustment Benchmark

For July 2026, initial travel receipt figures of €3.94 billion were revised upward by 19.86% to a final tally of €4.72 billion by the Bank of Greece. July 2025 figures saw a similar adjustment of 20.17%. These revisions mainly affected absolute values rather than year-on-year growth rates, which changed minimally.

Spending Patterns in August 2026

Spending per overnight stay rose 10.5% based on preliminary data, while average spending per traveller remained stable compared to August 2025.

This indicates that despite shorter stays, individual tourists spent more during each night of their visit.

Tourism Metrics and Data Reliability

August 2026 data show increased visitor arrivals, higher total overnight stays, and growing tourism revenues in Greece coinciding with a shorter average visit duration. These findings come from exclusive provisional data published by money-tourism.gr ahead of the Bank of Greece’s final official statistics. The adjustments observed in July provide a predictive framework for understanding August’s pending finalized figures.
