On October 23, 2026, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines reported over 2,000 flight delays nationwide, according to FlightAware data. The widespread disruptions involved airports across the United States.
American Airlines Faces Over 200 Delays at DFW Amid Technology Outage
American Airlines, the dominant carrier at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), recorded more than 200 delayed flights at DFW as of 2:05 p.m. local time. Southwest Airlines recorded approximately 70 delayed flights at the same time.
Vendor Technology Problem Causes Booking and Check-In Issues
American Airlines attributed its delays to a technology outage caused by a vendor issue that disrupted customers’ ability to book and check in online. The airline stated it was coordinating with its technology provider to resolve
the problem. The outage was resolved shortly after 2:30 p.m., after which American Airlines confirmed its systems were operating normally.
Southwest Airlines reported its flight delays were not related to the American Airlines technology outage. Delays involving Southwest flights did not significantly impact operations at DFW International Airport or Dallas Love Field Airport.
American Airlines advised customers traveling on October 23 to arrive at airports early due to the disruptions. An airline representative said, “A vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights. We’re working with the technology provider to resolve the issue as
quickly as possible. Customers traveling today should plan to arrive at the airport early. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
