On July 19, 2026, United Airlines experienced a severe technology outage across the United States that disrupted its check-in and boarding systems. This failure resulted in the cancellation of more than 2,000 United flights nationwide.

Ground stops implemented at seven major U.S. hubs

As a result of the outage, ground stops were enforced at seven major airports, including United’s key hubs such as Chicago and Los Angeles. Passengers at these locations faced extensive cancellations and delays disrupting travel plans throughout the day.
