United Airlines will launch the first direct scheduled nonstop service connecting the New York metropolitan area with Ibiza starting 31 May 2027. The seasonal service will operate four times weekly from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Ibiza Airport (IBZ).
Flight Schedules and Seasonal Operations
Outbound flights will depart Newark on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until 7 October 2027. Return flights from Ibiza to Newark will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 1 June until 8 October 2027. The route requires necessary government approvals before commencing operations.
Aircraft Type and Onboard Configuration
United will operate this route using its new Airbus A321XLR, a long-range single-aisle aircraft suited
for seasonal demand. The aircraft configuration features 32 premium seats, including 20 Polaris suites with privacy doors and 12 Premium Plus seats. Passengers will enjoy 4K OLED entertainment screens with Bluetooth and Starlink Wi-Fi available for MileagePlus members.
Route Significance and Market Growth
This is the first US airline nonstop service to Ibiza, eliminating previous multi-leg trips via European hubs like Madrid or London. Ibiza tourism authorities highlight a 21% growth in the US visitor market in May 2026 versus May 2025, with North American travelers making up 5.2% of international visitors from April to October 2025. Additionally, over 4.9 million online searches for Ibiza
from the US were recorded in the first half of 2026.
Traveler Benefits and Hub Connectivity
United’s Newark hub enables connections from other North American cities to Ibiza with a single stop. The nonstop flights reduce travel time by removing the need for European layovers, providing easier access to Ibiza’s diverse tourism offerings beyond nightlife, such as UNESCO-listed sites and wellness retreats.
United Airlines’ 2027 International Expansion
The Ibiza route is among 10 new international destinations announced for 2027 as part of United’s largest expansion in its history. Along with Ibiza and Valencia, new Newark routes include Marseille, Terceira, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, and Luxembourg. United has added 58 international destinations
since 2017 and now serves over 160 destinations outside the US.

Juan Miguel Costa, director of tourism for Ibiza, said attracting the US market is a strategic objective, noting American interest in the island’s culture, gastronomy, and leisure offerings. The Ibiza and Formentera Hotel Federation welcomed Newark as a gateway for travelers from the Americas.
