Royal Caribbean announced that the SpongeBob Musical will headline the entertainment lineup aboard its newest Icon-class ship, Hero of the Seas, which is set to depart from Miami in August 2027. This vessel represents the fourth ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon class.
Hero of the Seas Amenities and Entertainment
The Hero of the Seas, constructed at Meyer Turku Shipyard, recently reached a significant milestone when it was floated out for further outfitting before sea trials and delivery. The ship matches its sister Icon-class vessels as one of the world’s largest cruise ships and will offer guests access to eight distinct neighborhoods, nine pools, six waterslides, and the
FlowRider surf simulator. Dining will be available at 28 venues, alongside new onboard accommodations.
The theatrical production of SpongeBob Musical on Hero of the Seas is adapted specifically for the ship’s Royal Theater. This continues Royal Caribbean’s entertainment trend of featuring Broadway-style shows based on popular stories across its Icon-class fleet, following productions such as The Wizard of Oz on Icon of the Seas, Back to the Future: The Musical on Star of the Seas, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Legend of the Seas.
Seven-night Caribbean itineraries departing from Miami to Eastern and Western Caribbean destinations are open
for bookings from summer 2027 through spring 2028, providing passengers opportunities to experience the new entertainment offerings.

Christi Coachman, Royal Caribbean’s vice president of entertainment, highlighted that the entertainment lineup on Hero of the Seas is crafted to appeal to all ages. Coachman stated, “At Royal Caribbean, we’re focused on creating incredible experiences that bring families of all ages together in meaningful, memorable ways.” She emphasized that the SpongeBob Musical will unite multiple generations through its familiar storyline, combining creativity, cutting-edge technology, and world-class production unique to Royal Caribbean.
