The RMT Union has announced strike action by East Midlands Railway (EMR) staff for Saturday, August 15, 2026. This industrial action will significantly disrupt train services between Sheffield and London St Pancras.
Sheffield to London St Pancras Service Reductions
On August 15, EMR will operate just one train per hour between Sheffield and London St Pancras from 7am until 7pm. Trains to and from London St Pancras will only run during these hours, with no early morning or late evening services available.
Passenger Advice and Alternative Travel Options
East Midlands Railway has advised passengers to review full journey details carefully, including the timing of the first and last trains on the strike day.
According to National Rail, travelers holding pre-booked EMR tickets can use LNER services between Doncaster and London Kings Cross as an alternative during the strike.
EMR has previously reduced services following cuts announced in July 2026, affecting Intercity routes to London St Pancras. These included carriage reductions on the 6:30am and 7:02pm trains and cancellations of daily 2pm, 2:35pm, and 5pm journeys departing Sheffield. A recent heatwave has also slowed trains, adding to service delays and operational challenges.
An EMR spokesperson said, “There will be a significantly reduced train service to/from London St Pancras with trains starting after 7am and
finishing before 7pm only. We advise you to check your full journey, including first and last trains, before travelling on these dates.”
