A man went overboard from Ambassador Cruise Lines’ MS Ambition about 36 nautical miles east of Arbroath, Scotland. He was reported missing at 08:35 on Friday, and his body was recovered later that day following a large-scale search operation.
Coastguard aircraft were deployed from Prestwick and Carlisle, accompanied by a commercial search and rescue helicopter. Lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry and coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath, and St Andrews all participated in the search effort.
The incident occurred while MS Ambition was returning to Dundee after a themed solar eclipse cruise that included stops in Iceland and the
Faroe Islands. Before returning to Dundee on Friday, the ship docked in Lerwick. It departed Dundee for Newcastle shortly after 18:00 the same day.
Police Scotland confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the next of kin have been informed. No further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances of the fall overboard have been released.
Passengers on cruise ships are advised to maintain safety protocols to prevent such incidents.
