InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has reached 1,000 operating hotels across Europe as of October 22, 2026. The company added more than 210 hotels to its European portfolio over the last three years, representing net system size growth exceeding 25%, according to Rus Tourism News.
IHG Develops 280+ Hotels Across Multiple Segments
IHG currently has more than 280 hotels under development in Europe. These projects cover luxury, premium business, lifestyle, and more affordable branded accommodations. The pipeline reflects IHG’s strategy of broadening its offerings across established and emerging travel destinations throughout the continent.
Expansion Through Brand Additions and Acquisitions
IHG expanded its brand portfolio with the acquisition of the Ruby brand, a premium urban
lifestyle hotel operator. It has also introduced its 21st brand, the Noted Collection, which has already secured seven signings worldwide. Since early 2024, excluding Ruby properties, IHG has debuted 36 hotel brands across European countries including Iceland, Sweden, and Greece.
Key Hotel Additions in London, Marseille, and Vienna
Recent notable properties include The Hari hotel in London, which joined IHG’s Vignette Collection, a luxury and lifestyle brand for independent-style hotels. The Hari is located in Belgravia, near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park, and adds to Vignette’s 13 operating European hotels and 16 under development. In France, Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille represents the Ruby brand’s entry into the French market,
situated near Marseille’s historic waterfront. In Austria, Crowne Plaza Vienna, with 195 rooms, enhances IHG’s premium business hotel presence in Vienna.
Growth Driven by Conversions and New Builds
IHG’s expansion in Europe benefits from both new developments and conversions of existing hotels. Conversions enable IHG to introduce international brands into central urban areas where new construction is often restricted. This approach supports growth in major cities such as London, Marseille, Vienna, and Madrid.
According to UN Tourism data cited by IHG, Europe recorded approximately 793 million international arrivals in 2025, making it the largest international tourism market globally. Strong demand for leisure travel, city breaks, and business
trips underpins ongoing hotel investment and development throughout the region.
IHG’s One Rewards loyalty program connects more than 160 million members globally to its expanding European hotel portfolio. The company cautions that hotels under development may open at different times, with completion schedules subject to change.
