IHG Hotels & Resorts has surpassed 1,000 operating hotels across Europe, the company announced on October 22, 2026. More than 280 additional European properties are currently under development, underscoring sustained growth in its hospitality portfolio.
European Network Expansion and Growth
Over the last three years, IHG expanded its European hotel network by more than 210 properties, achieving net system size growth exceeding 25%. This growth follows a record number of hotel openings and development agreements concluded in 2025.
Regional Strategy and Brand Portfolio Development
IHG’s expansion includes entering new European markets such as Iceland, Sweden and Greece, and diversifying its branded offerings. The group acquired Ruby, a premium urban lifestyle hotel
company, and introduced the Noted Collection brand, which became IHG’s 21st hotel brand and has secured seven signings globally since its launch.
Key Hotel Additions: London, Marseille, Vienna
The Hari Hotel in London, an 85-room property located in Belgravia near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park, was added to IHG’s Vignette Collection luxury and lifestyle brand. This expands the collection’s European operational hotels to 13, with 16 more in development. In France, Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille is the first Ruby brand hotel in the country, situated near Marseille’s historic waterfront. In Austria, Crowne Plaza Vienna’s 195-room hotel strengthens IHG’s premium business hotel offering in Vienna.
Development Pipeline and Accommodation Categories
IHG’s more than
280 properties in development across Europe encompass a variety of accommodation categories, including luxury, premium business, lifestyle, and midscale branded hotels. Many of these projects are new builds or conversions of existing establishments in central urban locations where new construction is limited.
IHG One Rewards and Traveler Benefits
The expansion enhances options for members of IHG One Rewards, the company’s global loyalty programme with over 160 million members. The growing portfolio increases destinations and hotel choices available to these members across Europe.
Europe’s Market Context and Development Strategy
Europe accounted for approximately 793 million international arrivals in 2025, according to United Nations Tourism data, representing over half of global international travel. Strong
leisure demand, city tourism, and business travel continue to drive hotel investments. IHG employs hotel conversions strategically to introduce its brands into urban cores where new developments are challenging.
