
The Hanoi travel expo took place from April 9 to 12, 2026, at the International Center for Exhibition (ICE) under the theme “Digital transformation and green growth – Elevating Vietnam’s tourism.” The event featured nearly 400 booths, representing over 600 organizations and businesses from 31 provinces and cities in Vietnam and 20 countries and territories. International exhibitors made up 15 percent of participants.
Elderly Tourists’ Bookings and Motivations
Among attendees, elderly tourists aged between 60 and 75 emerged as principal contributors to the spending surge. Tran Quang Binh, 82, from Cau Giay District in Hanoi, booked a seven-day, six-night family tour to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou,
and Suzhou costing more than VND92 million (approximately US$3,760). He stated, “I studied in China before, so I’ve always been interested in its culture, history, and landmarks. This time, I’m booking the trip to travel with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild.” Tran Van Khoat, 77, from Vinh Tuy, was comparing domestic and overseas itineraries for potential bookings. Nguyen Van Khanh, 87, from Phuc Loi, who has traveled to over 30 countries, showed interest in tours to China and Russia and noted, “At our age, it’s easier to look for tours at fairs like this rather than online.”
Discount Offers and Interactive Activities from Travel Companies
Hanotours provided substantial
discounts of VND10 million (US$410) on US tours and VND5 million (US$205) on Europe and Australia tours. The company also distributed 100 travel vouchers worth up to VND5 million to early visitors. Hoang Viet Travel offered up to VND10 million (US$410) off 2026 World Cup tours and discounts ranging from VND400,000 to VND3 million (US$16 to US$123) on domestic and Asian tours. Travel held lucky draws, awarding more than 10 zero-cost tour packages and hotel vouchers on April 10 morning, and introduced over 100 Phu Quoc packages starting at VND3.9 million (US$159) per person. Vietravel offered up to 30 percent discounts on domestic tours and up to VND10 million (US$410) off international tours, plus additional early booking discounts up to VND3 million (US$123) per person.
Hotels including Hoa Binh Hotel, Hanoi Hotel, Pullman Hanoi, De l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery, and Thang Long Opera rolled out promotions on buffet dining, afternoon tea, MICE services, and conference packages.
Elderly Travelers Represent Significant Customer Segment
