Azul Hospitality Group announced the March 2026 conversion of Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa into Hotel Solea, operating under Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand in Carlsbad, California. The repositioning involved a comprehensive, multi-million-dollar renovation and was managed for property owner Grand Pacific Resorts.

Renovation Scope and Property Features

Hotel Solea now includes 201 guestrooms and suites along with several food-and-beverage outlets, including the signature restaurant Verise. The resort features more than 70,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, catering to business gatherings and lifestyle events.

Operational Management and Partnership

Azul Hospitality Group acted as the operational manager throughout the transition. CEO Alvaro Fraile emphasized the

complexity requiring coordination across operations, ownership, brand standards, design, commercial strategy, and guest experience. Grand Pacific Resorts co-president Timothy Stripe highlighted Azul’s critical role in managing this complexity and aligning the property with lifestyle traveler and group customer preferences.

Strategic Purpose and Traveler Impact

The conversion is a strategic investment for the long-term evolution of the asset in the competitive Southern California luxury and lifestyle hotel market. Travelers seeking upscale accommodations in Carlsbad can expect a differentiated lifestyle destination with enhanced amenities under the Autograph Collection brand.

Official Statements

Alvaro Fraile stated, “Successfully repositioning a large-scale resort from a Sheraton to part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection required

close alignment across operations, ownership, brand standards, design, commercial strategy, and guest experience.” Timothy Stripe added, “The transformation of Hotel Solea represents an important strategic investment in the long-term evolution of the asset. Azul played a critical role in managing the operational complexity of this transition while helping reposition the property to better align with today’s lifestyle traveler and group customer. The result is stronger long-term positioning for the asset.”
